BU Graduate Workers Union

To meet the needs of all grad workers, we have formed caucuses that advocate for change and build community around specific identities and/or issues. You can join one today! If you want to start a caucus around an identity or issue that isn’t currently represented, reach out to gradworkersofbu [at] gmail.com

Black Graduate Workers Caucus

The Boston University Graduate Workers Union is committed to breaking down barriers used to divide workers on grounds such as race, and one goal of the Black Grad Workers Caucus is to revitalize BUGWU involvement from members representing Black, African-American, and African Diasporic communities. The caucus seeks to address issues such as: the significant decline of Black student enrollment at BU, the BU Student Health Services decision to suspend the Black Students Support Group, and racial discrimination and retaliation experienced by Black grad workers at BU. As there are at least 25 Black PhD students and grad workers at BU without a designated coalition provided by the University, this caucus intends to empower Black grad workers and build our collective presence in BUGWU and beyond. If you are interested in joining this caucus, or know a peer who would be, please email Kailyn Smith (kaismith[at]bu.edu)
